Dear parents and carers,
We’ve packed a huge amount of learning into the last three and a half days!
On Monday we welcomed one of our parents, John McNeive, in to do an assembly on the history of the Easter Uprising in Dublin 1916. John’s Grandfather was one of the combatants at the historical event and his family have produced a fantastic animation which details what happened that day. John shared this with the children, who found it very interesting, and I am sure it will have opened their minds to the history of Ireland. A huge thank you to John and his family for sharing this with us.
On Monday afternoon we welcomed Laura House, one of our school governors in to school. Laura did a learning walk and loved what she saw. She was very impressed with the atmosphere for learning she experienced across the school and how children responded so articulately to teacher questioning.
On Tuesday we watched Year 3 Jade class perform their assembly on the Stone Age! The children were superb and we thank Briony, Deborah, Brenda and Debra for putting it together. On Wednesday and Thursday we enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in the Woodlands for all children from Nursery to Year 6. Every child searched for and hopefully found a chocolate egg to take home!
I was told by Carly that Isla in Year 3 Emerald class took it upon herself to sell some of her unused toys to raise money for Sport Relief! She raised £20 all by herself and I am so proud that this is what our children at BL would even consider doing! Amazing!
A big thanks to Barney & Byron for another hugely enjoyable concert combining Motown with Classic Rock! The concert was well attended and parents were wowed by Big Ideas Infant Choir in tiger mode (thanks to our expert face painter parents on make up) and their backing band of Barney on keyboards, Jason and Lisa on guitar and keeping the beat, Ed on drums. What a wonderful musical goodbye to the spring term.
On Thursday I held assemblies for all key stages and we have each staff member an Easter egg and a small note from children to say thank you. The staff at Betty Layward work incredibly hard and myself and all the SLT wanted to thank them for it.
We have achieved a lot during the Spring term and look forward to all that the Summer term will bring. I hope you have a wonderful break with your families and that you come back refreshed.
