Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had a great week at BL with some fantastic learning opportunities!
It was lovely to see the children back after half term and to hear about all of the wonderful experiences they’d had. On the first Saturday of half term, Mel McHugh and Jason Stuart escorted over twenty parents and thirty children on a trip to the Shrek Adventure at the Southbank! The trip was a great success and a lovely way for parents to meet one another out of school, as well as staff getting to know parents better too. We will be running another trip for Year 3-6 children in the summer term. Thank you to the staff, parents and children who attended this lovely event.
On Tuesday Year 4 had a visit from Noisy Classroom debating group. The children really enjoyed being given the opportunity and skills to debate and Richard, who delivered the session, was very impressed with the children!
On Wednesday we had the pleasure of watching the Year 1 Violet class assembly looking at significant people from the past such as Neil Armstrong and Mary Anning. The use of the ‘green screen’ was impressive and we must thank Mel, Charan and Annie for their hard work in putting it together. Well done to all who took part!
On Thursday Year 5 Saffron class did a fantastic assembly on the Greeks! I loved the Trojan horse prop! Great technology used and a lot of work went into it! Many thanks to Vicky and Warren for a great performance!
Also on Thursday our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 enjoyed the brilliance of the Singalong band once more! They came in to perform and work with our EYFS children in the Autumn term as well and were an amazing success! Thank you to funding from the PTFA for this!
On Friday eight of our Year 6 children went on the Linklater’s Debating Challenge at the Linklater’s offices in Liverpool Street. Anna, our Year 5 teacher, accompanied them as she did last year. Debating is a wonderful skill for all children to have and we are happy to be involved in the challenge once more. It also fits in perfectly with the skills our children are developing through Philosophy 4 Children and the Hackney Loves Reading programme.
Next week is Book Week! World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March but at BL we have extended it so that every day is kicked off with a visiting author hosting an assembly and then visiting various classes. Every single class will work with an author next week and we will share the wonderful experiences with you both in next week’s newsletter and on our website.
For World Book Day we will all be dressing up as one of our favourite characters from a book, we would love to see as many children as possible dress up. If you are struggling to find a costume come and see one of the staff and we will help you put something together.
Have a wonderful weekend!
