Dear Parents and Carers,

What a great start to the academic year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first term. I’m really enjoying getting to know the children and they impress me every day. Thank you for making me feel so welcome. I am really looking forward to working with you over the coming months and years. Betty Layward is a great place to work and I feel lucky to be the headteacher here. The staff are dedicated and work incredibly hard. They are passionate about what they do and really want the best for your children. I strongly believe in this ethos too and want to ensure that your children feel happy and safe at school.

It’s been a fab week. On Monday we enjoyed an assembly by Paula Varjack, a spoken word artist who then led poetry workshops with Year 6. On Tuesday, Barney’s African drumming assembly was fantastic and the week culminated in a whole school assembly on Thursday. Mel and the children sang enthusiastically and Year 6 performed poetry.

I attended the PTFA meeting last night and was really impressed by the commitment and dedication from all the parents and Carers who offer their time to help. Every parent is an automatic member and any help is very welcome, big or small. It all makes a difference. We feel really lucky that all the bids were accepted and the activities and resources will really benefit our children. Thank you for helping fundraise such a fantastic amount of money. I’m looking forward to the quiz night and the winter fair. If you are able to volunteer or help organise our winter fair, please let the PTFA know, it would be much appreciated. I have also attached a letter about project playground (see ‘news’ section of the school website). Thanks to Nicola and Anna, the parents who have donated their time to make this happen. We are on an exciting journey.

We say goodbye to Chloe today. Chloe has really helped me settle in and we wish her well for her new venture.

Have a fantastic half term.
