Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the last half term of the year! It’s amazing how quickly this year is whizzing by. I hope you all managed a restful and fun break and got to spend some time with your families and friends.
Monday started off brilliantly thanks to Oscar Henshaw and Isla MaySpence who wrote and performed a pupil led assembly on endangered animals. Thorough preparation meant that they engaged their peers and delivered a really interesting assembly for which we are very proud of you both! Huge thanks and well done!
The police were in Nursery on Monday to continue their work with each year group on personal safety in our community. Nursery children really enjoyed the visit.
Before half term our Year 6 debaters went to the Linklaters Debating challenge and WON! They came back with a trophy and certificates and are now through to the Linklater’s London final! Wow! Debating is such a useful skill to acquire and we are delighted that our pupils have done so well at each round! Onwards they go to the London final!
The weather was beautiful at the start of the week which allowed some lessons to take place outside! Barney took his Year 4 lesson out in the garden by Daniel House and the sound of glockenspiels being played was a lovely treat! Outdoor learning is definitely an area we are interested in developing at Betty Layward, as we recognise the benefits are huge.
We’ve continued to have many exciting sporting events this week, including a Year 5 & 6 swimming gala which took part on Thursday, a cricket event on Friday and all of our usual clubs and lessons. We are really excited about sports day coming up and the important dates to remember are at the bottom of the newsletter for you.
Before half term we came in to find a unicorn in our woodlands! The children then went away and wrote some incredible poems, stories, newspaper reports and instruction manuals on the experience! We will be displaying these in an online gallery in two weeks’ time and will let you know when they are accessible on our website.
Next Friday we welcome all our dads, step dads, brothers, cousins, uncles and grandads into school from 930am – 1030am. We invite you to meet in the hall first to get a drink and have a chat with one another and then go to your child/rens class and experience what school life is like for them, meet the teacher and look at their books. We’d love to see as many of you as possible here! Obviously we will do the same thing for our mums, step mums, grannys, sisters and aunties before the summer.
Coming up on June 23rd we are holding our first ever BLastonbury festival! This will showcase all of our musical talents and every child in the school will be involved. A programme of events will go out next week to explain further.
Thanks to those of you who came along to our PTFA meeting on Thursday night, we hugely appreciate your support!
Next week is our Year 6’s PGL trip to Liddington! I know how excited they are and can’t wait to join them myself on Wednesday!
Have a wonderful weekend!
