Dear Parents and Carers,
On Monday our Year 2s went to the Tower of London which links to their topic on the Great Fire of London. They were so well behaved and had a superb time exploring. I’ve loved watching them develop their portrait skills as well this week and we are very lucky to have such a wonderful artist in Dawn, to inspire them further!
I hugely enjoyed my Tea with the Head this week and hope the children did too. Each week a child from each class is chosen by their teacher or TA to come and have tea and cake with me in my room. It’s a chance to hear what they’ve been up to and get to know them better!
On Wednesday we welcomed our new reception parents in to school with a meeting hosted by Jess our EYFS coordinator. The turnout was superb and we are delighted to see so many of you, some we know already as your children attend Nursery, and some we look forward to getting to know over the years ahead. It reminds us how special the Betty Layward community is and it’s always lovely to welcome new parents to it!
Today we invited all of our significant males into school! So many dads, step dads, Grandads, brothers, uncles and cousins joined us and we were overwhelmed with the turnout (please see pictures opposite). It was lovely to see so many of you here and I hope it proved enlightening as to what your child’s schooling is like! Thank you for the feedback forms. We will have our significant women day on Friday 15th July from 930-1030am. We will hold these termly so that parents feel they can access their child’s classroom and better understand what life at BL is like!
Our sporting achievements continue with some of our Year 3-5 children playing in the Orange tennis tournament at Clissold Park and coming 1st! We are going to need a bigger trophy cabinet!
We welcome back our Year 6s from their PGL trip today and are delighted to see them home safely! I joined them on Wednesday to see how they were getting on and saw some very tired but extremely happy children! They had experienced new activities, challenged themselves and had a superb trip away. Well done to all and thank you to Mel, Warren, Barney, Jason, Helen and Peter & Chloe who joined the children for the week.
Next week is Sports Day! It is always wonderful to have parents and family join us in Clissold Park for the events, if you can! Let’s keep our fingers crossed for dry weather!
