Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had a lovely week at Betty Layward despite the unseasonal weather!

Spanish week has been superb this year! On Monday Helen and some of our Year 5 children led an assembly to the school on their recent trip to Madrid. Classes have been doing all kinds of Spanish-influenced activities!  In Year 4 on Monday, children made sangria mocktails! In Year 5 on Thursday children created salsa and tortilla to eat and in Year 6 they made piñatas decorated with Hispanic flags for the whole school! Huge thanks to Helen as our Spanish lead for inspiring the children to improve their Spanish and learn more about Spanish speaking countries around the world!

We are delighted that KS2 Sports Day has been rearranged for next Friday 8th July in Clissold Park from 10am until 11.30am followed by a picnic in the park. We would love as many of you to join us as possible!

Year 1 had their Little Architect workshops this week and they made crowns relating to their class topic ‘Where we live.’ The children designed the local area of the future, with tree houses and swimming pools suspended in the air. The children enjoyed learning about architecture and thinking about the local area.

On Wednesday the whole of KS2 went to the Rio cinema to watch The Book of Life in Spanish! The trip was a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The behaviour of all children was incredible and we are very proud of how our pupils represent us outside of the school!

We are really excited to be holding a celebration afternoon for Eid next Thursday 7th July from 430pm until 6pm in our main hall. We are very grateful to the 17 parents who have said they will bring food along to share with the community! We are really looking forward to celebrating and welcome everyone in the community to join us. A huge thank you to Mel McHugh for suggesting the idea and for working so hard to put it together.

Remember it’s the Summer Fair this weekend (how has a year flown by since our USA themed fair last year?!) and look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible tomorrow!

I hope you have a superb weekend with your families!
