Year 2 Apricot WOW Day
Year 2 Apricot have been very busy during this half terms WOW Day. We discussed how different structures are created and the different shapes needed to make a structure secure and strong enough to stand up on its own. Using spaghetti and marshmallows the children came up with a design and attempted to build it. Unfortunately, we discovered that spaghetti is not the best material for building a structure. We will do further testing of materials and check their appropriateness for building.
Welcome back to the first term at Betty Layward.

In English, 2 Peach we’ve been writing Explanation Texts about how Venus Fly Traps survive. This fed in to this week’s P4C (Philosophy for Children) discussion where we talked about morality. Here you see 2 Peach pupils watching a live ‘feed’, with an ipad camera hooked up to the whiteboard, displaying one our Venus Fly Traps and a captive fly.
After a night in captivity, a democratic solution was reached, a vote was taken and the fly was eventually released.
The results of the vote were as follows,
Release the fly immediately – 13 votes
Continue to incarcerate the fly with the carnivorous plant – 2 votes
Stun the fly and feed the Venus Fly Trap – 7 votes
Abstain – 7 votes
The votes were cast in a secret ballot…
